Volunteers ride the subway wearing Subwear suits: uniform style clothing printed with a graphic camouflage design inspired by the interior of the train cars and also military camouflage. The performers simply ride the train like any other rider. The literal blending of the Subwear suit, and also its stand-out oddity are meant to encourage the audience to consider their own personal presentation and how they read others based on appearance. I hope to provoke reflection on themes of physical and psychological safety, class and ethnicity, and acceptance or identification with particular groups.
